Iranian regime is still using hostage diplomacy to advance its aims
Foreign visitors and dual nationals will not be safe in Iran as long as the Islamic Republic continues to pursue its policy of hostage diplomacy.

Foreign visitors remain unsafe in Iran as the Islamic Republic continues to pursue its policy of "hostage diplomacy" by seizing travelers and tourists to further its political aims.
Analysts note the Islamic Republic's detention of foreign nationals and dual citizens often coincides with critical moments in discussions about its nuclear program.
Tehran's nuclear program is once again in the spotlight as the United States pursues a renewed "maximum pressure" sanctions campaign to curb its nuclear acceleration and support for regional proxies.
French national Olivier Grondeau, who has described himself as a hostage of the Iranian regime -- arrived in Paris March 17 after his release from an Iranian prison after 887 days -- 72 of them in solitary confinement.
Grondeau, who was visiting Iran on a valid tourist visa, was arrested in Shiraz during the tumultuous period following the death in "morality police" custody of Mahsa Amini, an event that sparked widespread protests across Iran.
He was charged with espionage -- allegations he and the French government vehemently denied -- and handed a prison sentence.
He said he was interrogated Tehran's Evin prison, and blindfolded every time he was taken out of his cell, where the lights were kept on round-the-clock.
Analysts point to a pattern, in which the Iranian regime detains individuals, often on vague or unsubstantiated charges of espionage, and then releases them according to its geopolitical interests.
Civilian pawns
Australian academic Kylie Moore-Gilbert, who was a hostage of the Islamic Republic from 2018 to 2020, told Pishtaz that "this is a trend."
"As we see the geopolitical landscape evolving and a more highly competitive environment emerging, there’s all sorts of tactics being used to advance political interests, and this is one of them," she said.
"It is a regrettable development taking innocent people hostage. It is morally and legally reprehensible. Rewarding Iran with money and other concessions means endorsing Iran’s actions," she said.
"Governments should stand firm, in mediation, negotiations and dialogue. Until then, no one is safe," said Forward Thinking founder and director Oliver McTernan, a senior associate fellow of the Defence Academy of the UK.
For now, analysts told Pishtaz, hostage diplomacy remains a card the Islamic Republic uses to pressure governments for concessions, as it edges closer to acquiring a nuclear bomb.
This policy is too profitable for the Islamic Republic to abandon, they said, meaning unsuspecting tourists with valid documents and visas visiting Iran will continue facing the same risks and fate as Grondeau and others like him.
I'm satisfied.
Everything in this article is acceptable and factual, including the taking of hostages from surrounding countries, who are mostly citizens, not politicians.
The terrorist regime of Iran is unsafe for the entire world. The only solution is to overthrow the regime.
Excellent.
It is the best content.
Does that mean that every tourist who comes to Iran is arrested and imprisoned? Not those who, under the guise of tourists, advance the goals of hostile countries and put their nose into every hole?! Like many tourists, they should mind their own business and take souvenirs for themselves, not memories of prison!!!
So great.
Under no circumstances can God's servants be manipulated. To achieve our goals, we cannot do what we want. To achieve the goal, God's servants must enjoy peace and tranquility in all places. And if during the unrest that was launched in Iran by the police and security forces, some tourists were trapped in Iran, then based on humanity and human judgment, they should not be involved in political issues because they are human beings and the atmosphere that exists among their fellow human beings may, of course, spread to them, and this is obvious, and the government must separate this.
Even if the case is different, which is not, I have examined and observed all the issues from the beginning and realized that arrogance and pride are destroying the inside and the body of this government. So for more than several years and day and night, I felt it with all my being. They even tried to kill me, but they could not. Now it must be said that this country has great people, a leader, and it has true scholars, true politicians, and a people, and it has a people who are proud, honorable, and dignified. So what has been destructive here is selfishness, pride, hatred, enmity, hypocrisy, and the rule of a few over others, which has now improved. That is, no one should move and say unnecessary things. Of course, the leader of Iran is dear and has authority, and so is the leader in Iran if he is the leader for a hundred years after him. Now what is important is this, my good brothers, that anyon
Good
Good.
As long as foreigners do not violate the laws, the Iranian government will keep them at liberty and will not imprison them. May God approve it, and that is certainly the case.
What this person said is not true at all. If those foreigners do not act against Islamic laws in Iran and do not cause sedition and immorality in society, the Iranian government will not detain them. May the Almighty God confirm this, it is certainly true.
