The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), running September 4–14, is celebrating the 10th anniversary of its Platform program, which showcases bold, auteur-driven voices.

Among the 10 films from 19 countries selected this year is "Between Dreams and Hope" by Iranian director Farnoosh Samadi, reaffirming Iran's place at the center of global cinema.

Iranian cinema has long been praised for its layered storytelling and artistry that often engage with social, political and personal themes.

Samadi's new film continues her exploration of these themes, following a young couple who must overcome societal obstacles in their search for a path toward a shared future.

Samadi is no stranger to TIFF. Her debut feature "180 Degree Rule" premiered at the festival in 2020, while her short "Disappearance" screened there in 2017, both earning critical recognition and sparking international dialogue.

Her return to the Platform program strengthens her standing among leading Iranian filmmakers whose works have left a mark on global audiences.

Recognition and reach

From Asghar Farhadi's Academy Award wins to Houman Seyyedi and Bahman Ghobadi's festival triumphs, Iranian directors have won top honors at Berlin, Venice and beyond.

TIFF's decision to feature "Between Dreams and Hope" continues that tradition of recognition, bringing Iranian voices to one of cinema's most influential stages.

For the Iranian diaspora, particularly the more than 100,000 in the Toronto area, these screenings resonate deeply.

They offer opportunities for cultural exchange and celebration, while also drawing in broader audiences eager to experience the emotional depth and powerful artistry of Iranian storytelling.

Screenings of Iranian films at TIFF frequently sell out, a testament to their impact and reach.

The showing of "Between Dreams and Hope" adds to that legacy, enhancing visibility of Iranian cinema and fostering cultural exchange.
