Iran's national basketball team has delivered an impressive performance at the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup, showcasing strength, cohesion, and strategic excellence in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Iran topped Group B with a clean sweep of victories, demonstrating dominance and resilience.

One standout moment was a closely contested win over Japan on August 8, one of the tournament's top contenders, where Iran secured a 78–70 victory.

This victory helped position Iran firmly at the top of their group and boosted their momentum heading into the knockout stages.

In addition to Japan, Iran put on a commanding performance against Syria, overwhelming them with an 82-43 win.

The team's balanced approach, focused on collective effort and tactical discipline rather than relying on a single star, has been crucial to their success.

Looking ahead, Iran's strong group stage performance sets them up well for the quarterfinals and beyond, fueling hopes of a deep run and potentially making basketball history in the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup.

In the 2025 edition, 16 teams will compete for the championship (August 5-17). These teams are divided into four groups of four teams each.

Prior preparations

Iran's national basketball team recently traveled to Moscow for two friendly matches against Russia as part of its final preparations for the Asia Cup.

The matches, held on July 28 and July 30, were a crucial part of the team's training camp, providing an invaluable opportunity to test themselves against a strong opponent.

In the first match, Iran secured a narrow victory with a final score of 70-67. Key players for Iran included Sina Vahedi, who led the team with 20 points, and Mohammad Amini, who contributed 16 points.

The victory demonstrated the team's ability to compete and close out a tough game on the road.

The second friendly match on July 30, however, saw Russia bounce back with a decisive 79-58 win.
